Patricia Saunders Nixon is an alumnus of Norfolk State University Cum Laude graduate in 1978 with a B.S. Degree in Music Education. Her major instruments were voice and organ. In 1988 she obtained a Masters of Music Degree in Vocal Performance. While attending Norfolk State University, Mrs. Nixon was a member of the College Sextet under the direction of Dr. Georgia A. Ryder and a member of the NSU Concert Choir under the direction of Dr. Carl Harris. She is currently working on a DMA in Vocal Performance at Shenandoah University Conservatory. Mrs Nixon taught at the Virginia School for the Deaf, Blind and Multi-Disabled at Hampton as Music Instructor for 22 years. She was also Choral Director for Norfolk Public Schools in Norfolk, VA and Portsmouth Public Schools Portsmouth VA. She was an Adjunct Professor in the Music Department at NSU before becoming a full time Instructor as a Vocal Instructor in 2002. This is her nineteenth year teaching voice and piano in the Junior Music Program/ Music Clinic at Norfolk State University under the direction of Dr. Marjorie Johnson. She served as the Music Advisor for the NSU Gospel Choir for one year. She became the Director of the Vocal Jazz Ensemble at NSU in 2003.
