The Music Education degree program includes theoretical and applied study, courses in methodology, musicology, general studies, and music technology. Instrumental students are train as directors of bands and as teachers of general music courses. Keyboard and vocal students are trained as choral directors and teachers of general music courses. The Music Education program fully satisfies the Virginia music education standards and qualifies the student to teach in the public school of Virginia and reciprocating states.
