Phyllis E. Cooper spent her childhood in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She currently lives in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Ms. Cooper earned a B.A. in Spanish Education from Central State University in Wilberforce, Ohio, and an M.A. in Spanish Literature from the University of Northern Iowa’s Summer Abroad Program in Soria, Spain. Besides teaching at NSU, Phyllis has taught Spanish at both the high school and community college levels. Her other study abroad experiences include Costa Rica, Mexico, and other parts of Spain.
Ms. Cooper, who has spearheaded numerous African-Hispanic conferences on campus, hopes to have the following papers published: "El Teatro Social en 'La historia de una escalera' de Antonio Buero Vallejo y 'El desalojo de la calle de los negros' de Jorge Emilio Cardoso" and "Las significaciones del tema negro en los villancicos de Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz."
Ms. Cooper started working at NSU in 1999. She is currently Co-coordinator of Foreign Languages for the Department of English and Foreign Languages. She is also the advisor of the Alpha Mu Gamma National Collegiate Foreign Language Honor Society.
Ms. Cooper’s favorite authors are Jorge Emilio Cardoso & Antonio Buero Vallejo.
