Dr. Nellie Evans Jones retired as an assistant professor from Norfolk State University, where she served in the Department of English and Foreign Languages from May 1975 through May 2000. She has now returned to serve as an adjunct professor in that department.
She earned her B.A. degree in English and her M.A. in communication from Norfolk State University. Dr. Jones then undertook further study at Howard University in Washington, D.C., where she earned a Ph.D. in rhetoric and intercultural communication. Her honors include membership in Alpha Kappa Mu Honor Society, 1973; Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, 1972; and Sigma Tau Delta National English Honor Society, 1971. One of her publications is “In Search of an Identity.”
Dr. Jones’s favorite poet is Langston Hughes, and because of the love for his poetry, she has written poems, including “Hope of Eternal Love” and “Hidden Treasures” published in Selected Works of Our World’s Best Poets.
