Michael J. Cotter is a native of Chicago and currently resides in Virginia Beach.  He earned a B.A.  degree in American literature at Chicago State University and an M.S. degree in print and broadcast journalism at Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism. He has taught courses ranging from African-American, American, British, and world literature to technical writing and cable, radio and television production.

 

His international teaching experience includes courses in composition and the novel at Mohamed V University in Rabat, Morocco.  He is also a former instructor in the Program for Afloat College Education (PACE), having taught aboard the U.S.S. Wasp in the Persian Gulf.

 

Currently in his 14th year at NSU, Mr. Cotter is the interim director of the writing program in the Department of English and Foreign Languages.

 

Mr. Cotter’s favorite authors are Nathaniel Hawthorne and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.
