Dr. Mamie L. Johnson is an assistant professor of English. She began service at Norfolk State University in 1994 as an instructor of freshman composition. Dr. Johnson received a bachelor’s degree in office management in 1976 and a master’s degree in communication with an emphasis in public relations in 1991 from Norfolk State University. In 2003, she received a doctorate in education with an emphasis in higher education administration from The George Washington University.
Dr. Johnson has served for several years as chair of the department’s annual Festival of the Arts Literary Conference. She is also the faculty advisor for Alpha Kappa Mu Honor Society, Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society, and the Spartan Toastmasters Club. Dr. Johnson is former president of the Norfolk Alumni Chapter of the NSU Alumni Association and of the Conference of Minority Public Administrators. Her favorite authors are Paul Laurence Dunbar, Zora Neale Hurston, Toni Morrison, and Maya Angelou.
