Born in Cairo, Egypt, Dr. Lamiaa S. Youssef spent her K-12 years in a Catholic school for girls in Cairo, where she graduated at the top of her class and ranked 9th in the nation on the National Examination for General Secondary Education.  She completed her bachelor of arts degree in English with honors in the College of Modern Languages (Al-Alsun) at Ain Shams University, Cairo, where she also graduated at the top of her class.

 

 

After finishing a year of graduate study in Egypt, she came to the United States to pursue her graduate degree.   She received a master of arts degree in comparative literature from the University of Rochester in Rochester, New York.  She then moved with her family to Virginia, where she was admitted to the University of Virginia, from which she received both a master’s degree and a doctorate in education.

 

Dr. Youssef’s teaching experience ranges from elementary to post-secondary education. She taught in an elementary school, in a business college, and in her alma mater in Egypt. Prior to coming to NSU, she taught all levels of English at ECPI College of Technology and Medical Careers Institute.  Then she taught English, Arabic, and global studies in Virginia Beach Public Schools.  Currently, she teaches English and Arabic at NSU.


 

Dr. Youssef is a fan of music and old Arabic movies. Her favorite English authors are William Shakespeare and Thomas Hardy.
